While Alicia Vikander seems to have a tight hold on the live-action “Tomb Raider” franchise, Haley Atwell is ready to take her turn as the iconic Lara Croft in a new Netflix series. However, Atwell’s addition to the world of “Tomb Raider” has the actress voicing the lead character in animated form.

According to Variety, Haley Atwell has signed on to star as Lara Croft in the upcoming anime-inspired “Tomb Raider” series coming to Netflix. The new series, which is produced by Legendary, will pick up from the events of the recent “Tomb Raider” video game trilogy and find Croft on a new adventure. For those unaware, “Tomb Raider” tells the story of Croft, an English archeologist that loves, well, raiding tombs and other hazardous environments on the search for special items. Basically, she’s Indiana Jones but a bit more athletic and action-focused.

Atwell is probably best known for her role as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Interestingly, she just returned as that character in animated form courtesy of the new Marvel Studios series, “What If?” She’s also set to show up in the upcoming “Mission: Impossible 7,” which continues to get delayed, but is supposedly going to hit theaters…sometime.

While the animated series is going to be excited for video game fans, you can’t help but notice just how perfect Atwell is for Lara Croft in live-action. As mentioned, Vikander is set to reprise her role as Croft in a new ‘Tomb Raider’ film, but if the studio ever needs a replacement, Atwell seems perfectly suited for the role.

A release date for the animated “Tomb Raider” series has yet to be revealed.
