Variety reports that MUBI Ceo Efe Cakarel confirmed Jarmusch’s next feature, titled “Father Mother Sister Brother,” will be on the Lido later this year. “That’s already confirmed,” he told the crowd during his keynote speech at SXSW London today. And Cakarel would know: MUBI co-produces Jarmusch’s latest effort, which shot lost year and was, at one point, eying a premiere at Cannes. No worries, however, as Jarmusch has history on the Lido: “Only Lovers Left Alive” premiered at the 2013 festival, and so did “Coffee & Cigarettes” ten years earlier.
“Father Mother Sister Brother” stars Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Tom Waits, Charlotte Rampling, Indya Moore, and Luka Sabbat. The family drama is a triptych: three separate stories set in different countries, each one revolving around adult children and their relationships with their parents. Part One, titled “Father,” takes place in the Northeastern US; “Mother,” Part Two, in Dublin, Ireland; and Part Three, “Sister Brother,” in Paris.
Charles Gillibert, Joshua Astrachan, Carter Logan, and Atilla Salih Yücer produce “Father Mother Sister Brother.” The film is a co-production between Saint Laurent Prods. (via its creative director, Anthony Vaccarello), MUBI, and The Apartment (a Fremantle company), along with Jarmusch’s Badjetlag banner and Gillibert’s CG Cinema. Other co-producers include Richard Bolger and Conor Barry via Hail Mary. Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland also helped finance the film through Cinea Inutile.
The Venice Film Festival’s official line-up announcement is still weeks away, but thanks to Efe Cakarel, we know that Jarmush and “Father Mother Sister Brother” will be there, and likely in competition. Stay tuned for what other films Jarmusch’s latest will vie against for the fest’s coveted Golden Lion.
