Earlier today, we shared a news item about Rahul Kohli being a bit heartbroken that he didn’t land a role in Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four.” Now, here’s a story about another actor, Glen Powell, who is finally able to joke about the fact that he “blew” the final audition for a major “Star Wars” role. It goes to show you how actors can never forget the times they came so close to landing career-changing roles.
Speaking to GQ, Glen Powell talked about all of the opportunities that didn’t work out for him. Roles in “Friday Night Lights,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” and even “Cowboys and Aliens” are brought up. But the one that seems to have stuck with him the most is how he came so close to landing the role of Han Solo in “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
“I can joke about it now, [but] I blew that final audition,” said Powell.
The role eventually went to Alden Ehrenreich. The film itself wasn’t all that beloved by critics or fans, and is the lowest grossing “Star Wars” film yet to be released. That said, it was a massive role to land, and Powell just missed it.
He added, “It’s haunting when you blow those moments…But that’s one of the parts of [the Hollywood myth] that’s not true. That was always somebody else’s ride to go on. You know what I mean? It was never yours to go on. If you put your time in, you’ll get your ride.”
Obviously, we can’t be too broken up about it for Glen Powell. The actor is one of the most in-demand people in Hollywood. He has one of the most anticipated films of the summer, “Twisters,” coming soon and he’s already landed roles in “The Running Man” and a remake of “Heaven Can Wait.”
