New 'Hanna' Trailer Reveals Its Teenage Assassin & Karen O Unveils A New Song For Series

The modern laws of creative bankruptcy and burdens of Peak TV insatiability essentially demand that every movie is turned into a TV series these days. If it’s a movie property that’s idling, but doesn’t feel like it’s big-screen appropriate, chances are someone is turning that into a TV series. Case in point, “Hanna,” the new Amazon Prime series about a teenage assassin.

“Hanna” is an adaptation of the 2011 action adventure thriller film that contains some prominent fairy tale elements, directed by Joe Wright (“Anna Karenina“) and starred Saoirse Ronan. Which is why maybe a back-to-basics version of the script as a TV series perhaps makes sense. This series version, about a young woman who is trained to become the perfect assassin by her father, an ex-CIA operative, stars Esme Creed-Miles as the title character Hanna, alongside Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos— hey a reunion for the leads from AMC’s once-amazing, quickly-turned-sh*t “The Killing.” Maybe second time’s the charm? The series was written by David Farr (“The Night Manager,” “Troy: Fall of a City“), is directed by Sarah Adina Smith (“Buster’s Mal Heart,” and episodes of “Legion” and “Room 101“), and is set to premiere on Amazon Prime soon.

Esme Creed-Miles is a newcomer with very few credits to her name. An appearance in Harmony Korine‘s forgotten “Mister Lonely” and parts in features such as “Dark River” and “Pond Life,” so it’s an interesting choice to give her the lead.

“Hanna” earns some extra cool points in the music department too. The original had a block-rockin’ beats score by the Chemical Brothers and this new series version features an original song, an “Anti-Lullaby,” by Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs frontwoman Karen O. Check out the new trailer and song below.
