Hannah John-Kamen To Star In Joey Soloway's 'Red Sonja' Film

While the character of Red Sonja doesn’t have the cultural cache like her frequent co-star Conan the Barbarian, for decades she has graced films, comics, and novels. And now, we know who will play the fierce warrior in the brand-new “Red Sonja” film.

According to THR, Hannah John-Kamen has been cast in the lead role of Joey Soloway’s upcoming “Red Sonja.” The film has been in development for years, originally expected to be directed by Bryan Singer. However, Soloway was brought in nearly two years ago to continue the project and bring it to life on the big screen.

“Red Sonja” is based on the character of the same name that originated in the “Conan the Barbarian” franchise. The character is a fierce and fiery warrior that is just as tough and badass as Conan. Previously, the character appeared in the 1985 “Red Sonja” film that starred Brigitte Nielsen as the title character. That film was connected to the Arnold Schwarzenegger ‘Conan’ franchise.

“Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she IS Red Sonja,” said Soloway. “Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.”
