Hayden Christensen Would "Absolutely" Return As Darth Vader For His Own 'Star Wars' Series

While fans are, of course, excited to see Ewan McGregor return to his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the, aptly titled, “Obi-Wan KenobiDisney+ series, there has been equal (if not more) anticipation at the idea of Hayden Christensen returning as Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader. Thankfully, for most people, the hype was well-deserved when we saw the duo face off in a recent episode. So, as with all franchise programming in 2022, the inevitable question must arise—what’s next?

In a new interview with THR, Hayden Christensen talked about returning to the role of Darth Vader all these years after the release of “Revenge of the Sith” back in 2005. He also teased how we haven’t seen the last of Vader in “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” But, for some fans, the most exciting aspect of the interview might be the fact that the actor is so happy to return to his “Star Wars” role that he’s ready, willing, and able to do an entire series devoted to the further adventures of the Sith master.

When asked if he’d do his own “Darth Vader” limited series, Christensen didn’t mince words.

“Absolutely!” said Christensen. “To get to do more with this character would be amazing!”

Regardless of how “Obi-Wan Kenobi” ends, we know Darth Vader lives on, as the character is the prominent villain in the original “Star Wars” trilogy. So, we can assume that, at the resolution of this current series, there are plenty of Vader-centric stories to tell. And let’s be real, Lucasfilm is probably itching to return to Vader, at some point, as the character is not only one of the most iconic in the franchise, but might actually be the most iconic villain in all of film history.

In addition to his enthusiasm about donning the black suit more in the future, Christensen also talked about what might be the most meme’d moment from his role in the Prequel Trilogy—the infamous “I hate sand” line. For those not familiar, during “Star Wars: Attack of the Clones,” Anakin Skywalker is having what is supposed to be an emotional moment with Padme, when he talks about his literal hatred of sand. It’s a moment that comes off incredibly silly due to the dialogue being a bit ridiculous and Christensen’s performance being a bit, uh, not good.

But year’s later, it appears the actor has a good sense of humor about the scene.

“You know, I think it’s funny people have taken such an interest in that line,” said Christensen. “Some of the dialogue is … different from what you’re maybe expecting. But, I never had any issue with that line. (Laughs.) I understood Anakin’s feelings toward sand, but maybe it was a bit of an odd time to bring it up, as he’s flirting with this girl who he has so much affection for. But, you know, he’s Anakin.”

“Obi-Wan Kenobi” airs new episodes on Wednesdays. You can watch the aforementioned “I hate sand” scene below:
