While every movie site and blog on the web (including us) spent the better part of last weekend watching, re-watching, re-re-re-watching and then deconstructing the final trailer for Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending, dreamworld, blockbuster “Inception” most people have taken for granted that the absolutely first rate music in the trailer was by Hans Zimmer. Turns out, it’s not.
Zack Hemsey is the guy behind the thrilling music in the spot, and hats off to the composer for doing a very good Hans Zimmer impersonation. And we don’t mean that as a slight at all. Hemsey’s piece is crisp, cold gravitas, thrumming, pulsating strings and awe-inspiring crescendos: matching perfectly the mysterious, fantastical world Nolan has cooked up. But, if you’re wondering what Zimmer has in store after his raw nerved score for Nolan’s “The Dark Knight,” you can get sample by visiting the official “Inception” website.
You can have a listen to Hemsey’s piece below and if you like it, we urge you pay the $1 to download it. It was one our favorite elements of the last spot and we hope it helps Hemsey break into feature composition (until now, he’s done mostly television and commercial work).
In case you need reminding, “Inception” opens on July 16th.
