Henry Cavill Is “Not A Fan” Of Sex Scenes In Films: “I Think Sometimes They’re Overused These Days”

Henry Cavill is often very good in the films he works on. However, you can’t deny that a large selling point about him showing up in a project is his physique. He’s a very handsome man. And for many people, the idea of seeing him take off his shirt and get intimate with someone on screen would be wonderful. Well, now we know that Cavill doesn’t really see a reason to do that, and in fact, he doesn’t like intimate scenes, either.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Happy. Sad. Confused. podcast, Henry Cavill was asked about sex scenes in films. And right off the bat, it was clear Cavill had some thoughts about the idea of including them in projects.

“I don’t understand them — I’m not a fan,” he said. “There are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience … [but] I think sometimes they’re overused these days. It’s when you have a sense that you’re going, ‘Is this really necessary, or is it just people with less clothing on?’”

He added, “That’s where you start to get more uncomfortable and you’re thinking, ‘There’s not a performance here. There’s not a piece which is going to carry through to the rest of the movie.'”

Cavill does go on to joke that it might be the British prude in him, but he’s just not really interested in them and actively doesn’t enjoy performing in intimate scenes. He summed up his feelings quite well later.

“Sex scenes can be great in a movie. They can really help with the storytelling,” Cavill explained. “But most of the time, the human imagination is going to trump it. So, it can be a little bit of a cop out if a TV show or a movie is filled with just gyrating bodies, and you’re going, ‘Ok… but what is this doing for us other than [seeing] a naked person?’”

So, this might just be a sad day for people all around the world who were hoping to see more nude Cavill in films and TV shows in the years to come. I mean, maybe he’ll take his shirt off in “Highlander” or “Warhammer,” but it doesn’t sound as if he’s going to show up in the next Adrian Lyne movie or anything like that.

You can see Henry Cavill in a flat top and dapper suit in “Argylle,” which is in theaters now. The full discussion is below:
