In the works for years after Netflix picked up the original script back in 2020, the heist thriller, “Here Comes The Flood,” has finally secured quite the high-profile lead cast and director as production is moving forward.
Those actors assembled (via The Hollywood Reporter) include two-time Oscar-winner Denzel Washington (“Highest 2 Lowest”), Robert Pattinson (“Mickey 17”), and Daisy Edgar-Jones (“Twisters”). “Here Comes The Flood” has a script penned by Simon Kinberg (“Mrs. & Mrs. Smith,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past”), and acclaimed Brazilian filmmaker Fernando Meirelles (“City Of God”) is set to direct.
The thriller is described as “an unconventional heist movie about a bank guard, a teller, and a master thief in a deadly game of cons and double crosses. The story is said to unfold in a non-linear fashion.” However, we’ll have to wait for the whole plot and character details as Netflix announces them.
Washington has been gearing up for a Cannes Film Festival debut for his latest collaboration with filmmaker Spike Lee on the ransom remake “Highest 2 Lowest,” spilled the beans of his early involvement with Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther 3,” has two more sequels to “The Equalizer” in the works, and was considered a significant highlight in Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II,” thanks to a bombastic presence.
Pattinson has been as busy as it gets, taking on roles in Christopher Nolan’s Greek epic blockbuster “The Odyssey,” nabbing another supporting part as a villain in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune Messiah,” and we’re waiting potentially to hear when Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II” will shoot. He also has his own Cannes-bound flick with Lynne Ramsay’s “Die My Love” co-starring with Jennifer Lawrence.
Meirelles is quite the get having helmed pics such as the Oscar-nominated Rio de Janeiro crime epic “City of God,” the John Le Carré feature adaptation of “The Constant Gardener,” the sci-fi thriller “Blindness,” “The Two Popes,” directed an episode of HBO’s spy thriller show “The Sympathizer,” and the recent Colin Farrell L.A.-set Apple TV+ detective series “Sugar.”
Initially, there had been reports that Netflix darling Jason Bateman (“Ozark”) was attached to direct “Here Comes The Flood,” but that obviously didn’t come together as planned.
