Everyone on Earth is able to watch a Christopher Nolan film and realize that the filmmaker is one of the best in the business. His craftsmanship is almost unparalleled. However, if you go on IMDB or social media, you might think that Nolan is the Second Coming and that his filmography is nothing but classics (minus “The Dark Knight Rises”). Basically, Christopher Nolan is the film god for many on the Internet.
So, of course, it’ll be interesting to see how the Nolan fans react to the recent Screen Junkies Honest Trailer for “Every Christopher Nolan Movie.” Unlike a lot of the Honest Trailers that tackle horrible films, this trailer tackles a filmography that is objectively pretty great, even if you don’t worship at the altar of Nolan. And in the trailer, you see that the folks at Screen Junkies are quick to point that out.
However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some hilarious jokes. From starting off with a bang, pointing out that almost every protagonist in a Christopher Nolan film closely resembles the director, himself. Also, there’s the fact that Nolan tends to create protagonists with dead wives. And as they point out in the trailer, “Or when Nolan really wants to shake things up — the death of his girlfriend!”
There’s also the low-hanging Nolan jokes, such as the loud and BWAAAAAAAAH scores, the fact that his characters would rather discuss the merits of emotions instead of actually experiencing them or showing them, and also the way that most of his films tend to play around with time.
All told, it’s yet another quality entry in the Honest Trailer library, and even though it might piss off the legions of Nolan-ites out there who think the director is untouchable, it’s nice to see even the great filmmakers get brought down a peg or two occasionally.
