When you’re 20-years-old and a musician that can sell out arenas, why would you want to settle down and get married? Well, apparently that’s the question that everyone has for the lead in the new film “I Still Believe.” And the answer? Um, because…God?
The trailer for “I Still Believe” lays out the basic “based on a true story” plot of a young, insanely popular Ed Sheeran-esque singer/songwriter that falls in love with a woman that is sick with some sort of terminal illness. His parents question why he’s quick to marry at such a young age, especially with a woman that is probably going to die. And since this is one of those faith-based films, the answer is because…wait for it…he believes he was destined to be with her.
As you might imagine from the title, the young singer’s faith is questioned (complete with a scene where he throws the Bible in anger because he’s so mad, damn it!). But with the song playing in the background, featuring the film’s title as the lyrics, you know that everything is going to work out for the better. For him, at least. His new wife? She’s definitely going to die. Spoiler alert.
“I Still Believe” stars KJ Apa, Britt Robertson, Gary Sinise, and Shania Twain. The film comes from the directors behind “I Can Only Imagine,” the Erwin Brothers. Their previous film was a surprise box office hit back in 2018 and was also based on a Christian musician’s story.
“I Still Believe” arrives in theaters on March 20, 2020.
Here’s the synopsis:
From the makers of I CAN ONLY IMAGINE comes the true life story of Christian music mega star Jeremy Camp. Jeremy’s remarkable journey of love and loss proves there is always hope in the midst of tragedy and that faith tested is the only faith worth sharing.
