'It' Filmmaker Teases Director's Cuts & A Two-Film Combined Cut As First Reactions To Horror Sequel Roll In

We are still a couple of weeks away from Pennywise haunting audiences yet again in “It: Chapter Two.” But even still, with all the hype surrounding the sure-thing box office winner, director Andy Muschietti is teasing that there might be more versions of his two films coming in the future.

“The possibilities are open,” Muschietti said in an interview with SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar). “There’s a version where the two movies are cut together. There’s a version where there’s a special director’s cut of number one and a special director’s cut of number two. And I’m happy to basically work on every one of them.”

Warner Bros. had no idea that the modestly-budgeted “It: Chapter One” would go on to become the highest-grossing horror film ever made, so it makes sense that the studio would be interested in making as much cash off the franchise as it can. Obviously, with the story concluding in ‘Chapter Two,’ there doesn’t seem like an easy way to continue the franchise, so double-dipping and releasing a couple of Director’s Cut and one massive supercut of both films seems logical enough.

While we don’t know specifics about how or when these versions of the popular horror films will be made available, one thing is for sure — at least the Director’s Cut for ‘Chapter Two’ will happen. Muschietti said that he’s currently working on cutting down his original 4-hour Director’s Cut to a more reasonable time, but assured fans it’s “definitely going to happen.”

Before we get to any supercuts or Director’s Cuts, we have to first watch ‘Chapter Two.’ And while most of us have yet to see the latest terrors inflicted on the now-grown Losers Club by Pennywise, there are some that have screened the film. And judging by their reactions, it appears that WB probably has another hit on its hands, even though the sequel may not live up to the first film.

You can read some of the reactions below. “It: Chapter Two” arrives in theaters on September 6.
