James Cameron Uses 'Avatar' Update Video To Implore Fans To Watch 'Alita: Battle Angel'

Right now, when you talk about projects that James Cameron is working on, really all anyone cares about are his four ‘Avatar’ sequels (apparently with silly titles). And knowing that, Cameron decided to take to Twitter to give a quick update on the progress that has been made. Oh yeah, and he wants you to go watch “Alita: Battle Angel.”

In a new video message aimed at fans of the ‘Avatar’ series, the filmmaker opened up from the set of the sequel films to talk about where progress currently stands. Basically, he says that the principal cast, which includes Sam Worthington, Kate Winslet, Stephen Lang, and Sigourney Weaver have all finished filming for ‘Avatar 2’ and ‘Avatar 3,’ which we already knew.

Cameron said, “They’re done now but they gave us incredible performances. And I can’t tell you how proud I am of the work that they did on these films.”

But that only took 30 seconds of the almost 2-minute-long video. What’s the rest of the video, you might ask? Well, it’s a plea from Cameron to please watch the new trailer for “Alita: Battle Angel.” The new action film hits theaters in early 2019 and is directed by Robert Rodriguez. However, this is a passion project for Cameron, who serves as co-writer and producer on the film.

Now, a cynic might say that the filmmaker was baiting fans into watching what is perceived to be a “very rare” moment to update about ‘Avatar’ sequels. But really, it’s just a glorified presentation of the new “Alita: Battle Angel” trailer. We’ve seen Cameron stump for other people’s films previously (including a couple of those awful ‘Terminator’ sequels), so take what he says with a grain of salt about the quality of ‘Alita.’

That being said, it does appear that the filmmaker was pretty hands-on with ‘Alita,’ so perhaps the action film is really a film to keep an eye on.

“Alita: Battle Angel” arrives in theaters on February 14, 2019. Despite principal cast being finished filming, ‘Avatar 2’ is still over two years away, hitting cinemas on December 18, 2020.
