'Alita: Battle Angel' Trailer: Robert Rodriguez & James Cameron Team Up For A Beautiful Sci-Fi Film

It’s clear that the success of “Alita: Battle Angel” is going to rest on the shoulders of the special effects gurus behind the scenes. Creating the main character completely out of CGI, in a world comprised mainly of CGI, the special effects folks have their work cut out for them with ‘Alita.’ However, if the new trailer is any indication, it looks like they’re up to the task.

The new trailer for “Alita: Battle Angel” is our best look yet at the upcoming Robert Rodriguez-directed sci-fi film. Giving more of a hint as to what the story is, the trailer also boasts some of the best visuals we’ve seen from the film yet. The main character, Alita, looks pretty great as she blends in with the human actors, albeit with much more exaggerated features that call back to the film’s Japanese origins.

Considering the fact that James Cameron has a large hand in the creation of this film, as well as the technology used behind the scenes, it should be no surprise that the film actually looks beautiful. The real question now is whether or not Rodriguez and the cast can create a story that’s engaging and uses all this impressive technology to its full advantage.

We’ll find out when “Alita: Battle Angel” hits theaters on February 14, 2019.

Here’s the synopsis:

From visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY), comes ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.
