Warner Bros. might not be jumping up and down about the box office return of “The Suicide Squad,” however, WarnerMedia seemed happy enough to give James Gunn his own spinoff HBO Max series “Peacemaker” and have indicated they want him to make more films for them. It also feels like directors such as David F. Sandberg (“Shazam!“), Cathy Yan (“Birds of Prey“), James Wan (“Aquaman“), and Gunn are behind a new era of the DCEU, breathing new life into it.

Fans have been dying to know if James Gunn would be coming back soon to tackle more DC Comics properties, but has seemingly indicated that he’s interested in making a second season of “Peacemaker” once he wraps on Marvel’s “Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3” and the “Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special.”
While interacting with a fan on Twitter (See below), Gunn admitted that while he’s spoken with Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie about working together again, he hasn’t “discussed nor considered” making “Gotham City Sirens.”
The female-driven project was once developed by “Suicide Squad” director David Ayer before the studio pivoted to making “Birds of Prey” instead. “Sirens” would have featured iconic female rogues Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman getting together for their own adventure.
While Margot Robbie has been campaigning to bring the Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy romantic relationship (seen in the “Harley Quinn” cartoon) to the big screen, we really haven’t had much of an update on the status of “Gotham City Sirens” or if they’re even interested in circling back to it anytime soon.
It’s worth mentioning that Poison Ivy was a member of The Suicide Squad in the comic books, making her a potential contender for a hypothetical “Suicide Squad 3” and would mean that “Sirens” isn’t the only way we could see that character introduced to the DCEU, the “Batgirl” HBO Max movie could be a second option.”
Gunn seems like he’s going to be busy for the next little while as “Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3,” giving him plenty of time to weigh his options concerning a follow-up to “The Suicide Squad.”
