Is everyone and their mother in “Deadpool & Wolverine”? Filmmaker Shawn Levy has hinted at cameos several times (as has filmmaker Matthew Vaughn), and so has ‘Deadpool’ actor Karan Soni. The expectation, in general, seems to be: expect a ton, with many speculating that the upcoming third ‘Deadpool’ movie will be a goodbye to the 20th Century Studios era of Marvel movie-making.
It’s not just empty random speculation, either. We already know that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as “Elektra” from her solo spin-off movie and the Ben Affleck-era “Daredevil” films, and actors like Patrick Stewart have hinted we may see his Professor X “X-Men” character return after a brief cameo in “Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness.” To boot, plenty of set photo appearances, which we won’t spoil here, heavily suggest that many characters and actors from at least the “X-Men” movies will return (Vinnie Jones from “X-Men: Last Stand” recently admitted he was also asked to reprise his role as the Juggernaut, but eventually turned it down). So, tons of evidence to suggest that we could see all kinds of cameos from Fox-era franchises like “Fantastic Four,” “X-Men” and “Daredevil.”
To this end, we recently spoke to James Marsden about his new crime thriller, “Knox Goes Away,” starring and directed by Michael Keaton. Both men talked about their time in comic book movie adventures, Keaton in the “Batman” films and his recent appearance in “The Flash,” and Marsden as Cyclops in the “X-Men” movies.
Interviewer Mike DeAngelo spoke to the pair, who play a father/son duo in the film, for The Discourse podcast and even preemptively told Marsden that he wouldn’t put him on the hot seat and directly asked about “Deadpool and Wolverine.” Still, he eventually made it there all on his own.
“We just wrapped, actually, “Marsden said, speaking about the upcoming “Sonic The Hedgehog 3” sequel. “We were actually near the… ‘Deadpool’ [production] stages up there in Pinewood,” he said, seemingly regretting what he said in real-time. “Yeah, this is a little… umm…bit of a Pandora’s box.”
“Look, franchises, I even hate that word franchises….” he said, pivoting to ‘Sonic,’ arguably a little awkwardly. “So I feel very proud of what we’ve created and the response from the fans and everything.”
Earlier in the interview, he said about “Deadpool & Wolverine,” that he keeps getting accosted on the street about whether he’ll appear in the film. “Yeah, I keep hearing about it; I can’t walk down the street without someone asking me, so evidently, there’s a lot of chatter about that.”
Is that enough to think Marsden is turning up in “Deadpool & Wolverine”? Watch the interview yourself below and tell us what you think. Meanwhile, more from this interview soon and “Knox Goes Away” opens in limited release this Friday, March 15.
