Though film fans are quick to debate the merits of filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, there are many that have worked with the man that believe he’s one of the most talented people in film. One of those people is Jamie Foxx.
While attending this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, where he debuted the film “Just Mercy,” co-starring Brie Larson and Michael B. Jordan, Foxx was answering questions in a discussion, when the topic of Quentin Tarantino came up. This sent the actor into a conversation complimenting the filmmaker, while also talking about his efforts to land the lead in “Django Unchained.”

“He’s incredible. I’ll literally say he’s probably the best director out there because of what he does and how he does it,” said Foxx.
Foxx starred in what is currently Tarantino’s highest-grossing film, “Django Unchained.” But according to the actor’s stories, he had to make sure that Will Smith and Idris Elba turned down the role first so that he could land a meeting with the director.
“Will Smith was going to play [the role]. And I was like, ‘Will, if you play it, you won’t be able to walk the planet Earth.’ And he decided not to,” said the actor.
He continued, “And then it was Idris Elba, at one point, and I ran into him…I was like, ‘I don’t give a fuck, but if your beautiful Black ass ride up on that horse, it’s going to be problems for everybody.’ And then he didn’t want it, as well.”
From there, the actor says that he finally got his meeting with Tarantino and won him over by saying he had his own horse. Of course, the whole exchange is sort of said in jest, so it’s unclear how much of it is true, but either way, makes for one hell of a story performed by one of the funniest guys in Hollywood.
