Yes, the drunken night of hijinks has been done to death, and the genre doesn't lend itself well to bold reinvention. But, you know what? When it works and is executed with flair, it's still a stupid good time, and while "21 & Over" makes no mistake that it's coming from Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the writers of "The Hangover" (making their directorial debut), that doesn't mean we didn't chuckle ourselves silly watching the first trailer.
Starring Miles Teller, Justin Chon and Skylar Astin (aka the love interest from "Pitch Perfect"), the movie's plot is pretty straightforward: Straight-A college student Jeff Chang gets a surprise visit by his two best friends, Casey and Miller, for his 21st birthday, and they go out for a night on the town, even though his critical medical school interview is early the next morning. What was supposed to be one beer becomes one night of chaos, over indulgence and utter debauchery.
Predictable? Sure. But there are some nice gags in here, and we mostly love that Jeff Chang is referred to throughout by both his first and last name. Perfect. Get carded on March 1, 2013. Watch below.
