Got a Tip?

‘Supernatural’ Actor Jensen Ackles To Play A Captain America-Esque Hero In ‘The Boys’ Season 3

If you’re a fan of online geek culture, you’re probably well aware of Jensen Ackles and the adoration he receives from millions of people for his work on “Supernatural.” Well, it appears that the actor has found his next project after the CW series, and he’s sticking to TV. Although, his next TV gig is going to be very different than “Supernatural.”

According to a social media post, Ackles has revealed that he will be joining the cast of “The Boys.” In a post on Instagram, Ackles shared a video of him looking at a copy of “The Boys” and nodding like he discovered what he was set to do next. He wrote, “I keep wondering what I’ll do….when @cw_supernatural finally ends this year. Then it hit me.” The video also features a song with the lyric, “Soldier Boy.”

This obviously means that Ackles is set to join Season 3 of “The Boys,” which was just greenlit by Amazon, weeks before the show returns for Season 2. Ackles will portray Soldier Boy, who like the name implies, is a bit of a Captain America parody, but without all the confidence and heroism that makes Cap one of the most beloved figures in the Avengers. In the comics, Soldier Boy is shown to be weak-willed and out of his depth in just about every situation and even providing sexual favors to Homelander for a promised spot on The Seven.

“When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment,” said producer Eric Kripke in a statement (via Variety). “I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of ‘Supernatural’ to ‘The Boys.’”

Ackles is probably best known for starring on CW’s “Supernatural,” which aired for something like 450 seasons on the network and just wrapped up this year. He’s no stranger to actively campaigning for superhero roles, often discussing which Marvel or DC character he’d like to portray. And since it appears no MCU offers have been made, he’s ready to parody one of the most popular characters for Amazon’s subversive TV series.

“The Boys” Season 2 is set to premiere on September 4.
