Keanu Reeves Applauds The New "Thoughtful, Effective" Safety Protocols On 'The Matrix 4' Set

2021 was poised to be the Year of Keanu. With not one but two major franchises releasing films starring Keanu Reeves in May 2021 (“The Matrix 4” and “John Wick 4,” respectively), the actor’s career was expected to become even bigger than it already is. However, the pandemic had other plans, and production on “The Matrix 4” was halted. Combined with the development delay of the “John Wick” franchise (now, filming two sequels back-to-back), 2021 is going to be a pretty quiet year for Reeves. But with filming set to restart on “The Matrix 4” finally, it appears the actor is confident that the sci-fi action feature won’t be greatly affected by the pandemic moving forward.

Speaking to the AP, Reeves talked about the precautions that the studio is taking with “The Matrix 4” and how the production is able to move forward. And the actor isn’t too concerned about the flow of the production being changed due to these new safety protocols.

The actor began by saying he’s “very grateful” to actually be able to work right now, during the pandemic. But outside of that, he believes that “The Matrix 4” production is able to continue and still be respectful of the new protocols.

“There’s some really thoughtful, effective protocols in place, and the rhythm of filmmaking has been not really impacted or interrupted,” he explained. “I think everyone loves the project. If you’re ever going to get into any kind of situation that needs to be figured out or, ‘How do we do this,’ show business people are the best. We’re scrappy, we know how to get stuff done, we’re inventive, think on our feet… It goes back to like, ‘Let’s put on a show’… And that spirit is definitely alive and well in ‘The Matrix.’”

“The Matrix 4,” along with a number of other major blockbusters that were already in production when the pandemic first shut everything down, has found itself delayed from its original May 2021 release date. Now, with filming only just restarting, the highly-anticipated sequel is going to arrive in theaters almost a full year later, on April 1, 2022. Sure, that’s over a year away, but we’ve already waited over 15 years since the third film, so what’s another year?
