Seth Rogen Says 'The Boys' Is The Most Popular Project He's Ever Made

When you think of Seth Rogen films, many of which he stars in and produces, you might imagine a raunchy comedy with a wee bit of heart. It’s a formula that the actor-filmmaker has perfected over the past decade or so and continues to be very successful replicating, with films like “Superbad,” “Blockers,” “Neighbors,” and the upcoming “An American Pickle.” But if you want to talk about which project Rogen is involved with that is the most successful, you have to look at TV and specifically his superhero series, “The Boys.”

Though Rogen doesn’t star in the series, the filmmaker had a very big role in getting “The Boys” made, as a producer on the series with his Point Grey production company. And according to a new interview with THR, Rogen points to the Amazon subversive superhero series is his most popular project of all time, though he’s not sure the exact numbers. You see, Amazon (like Netflix and other streamers) is very secretive with the details.

“They’ve conveyed to us that it is quite popular,” Rogen said. “It’s for sure the most popular thing we’ve made. I could quantify every failure I’ve ever had for you, but I could not give you specifics on our success.”

“The Boys” isn’t your typical superhero series that you might see from another studio like Marvel or DC. The series follows a group of Avengers-esque characters that are not only protecting the world, but they’re doing so as employees for a megacorporation that uses them as marketing gimmicks, as well as heroes. Imagine the Avengers if they were actually owned by Disney in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series shows that these heroes are pretty insufferable and fame-hungry; not the heroes you might be expecting.

The show is incredibly violent and also very funny. And it’s clear that Rogen and his sensibilities play a large part in that. So, while we have yet to see Rogen suit up for the series, “The Boys” has become a hit for Amazon and is entering Season 2 next month. The streaming service has already announced plans for Season 3, ensuring that the superhero show sticks around for a while yet.
