It’s been nearly a decade since J.C. Chandor released his drama, “A Most Violent Year.” Since then, there have been rumblings about an eventual sequel. But over the past few years, we haven’t heard much at all. According to Jessica Chastain, the idea for the sequel is great, but everyone is just waiting on a script for the sequel.
Speaking to EW, Jessica Chastain was asked about the talk of a sequel to the 2014 film, “A Most Violent Year.” The film co-stars Chastain and Oscar Isaac and was acclaimed upon its release, earning Chastain a Golden Globe nomination for her performance. Back in 2020, it was revealed that a sequel was being discussed. However, as mentioned, talk about another film has died down. Well, Chastain said that has nothing to do with the content, but there just isn’t a real script yet.
“Here’s the reality, and we’ll see if this ever happens, because this is a script I’m waiting to get written. Waiting on,” said Chastain. “It’s a story about capitalism using this family, [it’s] the American story. J.C. has a really good… when I first met with him, he pitched me this whole idea, and I think it’s amazing, so I’m waiting. I’m just waiting to get a script.”

While she didn’t get into details about the idea, she did say a sequel could be about “what happens to Anna Morales 10 years later.”
She added, “You know she’s ruling the roost. You know she grew up in a not great situation, she’s got the gun in her purse, she’s ready, she shoots the deer, like, no problem. She’s ready to be let out of her cage.”
Obviously, the idea of a sequel is even more enticing in 2023, as Chastain and Isaac have only seen their stars rise immensely over the past decade. You have to imagine that a sequel to “A Most Violent Year” would instantly become one of the most anticipated films of the year.
