Ever since Jonathan Majors was arrested for assault, people knew that Marvel Studios was going to have to change its plans for “Avengers 5.” At that point, the film was titled ‘Kang Dynasty,” and it seemed like it was going to revolve around Majors’ villain, Kang. But for more than a year, no one knew what was officially going to happen. Well, until last weekend. Now, we know it’s all about Doctor Doom.
In a new “interview” with TMZ (not really an interview so much as an ambush, but I digress), Jonathan Majors was asked about the news that Robert Downey, Jr.’s Doctor Doom is going to seemingly take over for Kang as the big bad of the Multiverse Saga. And as you might expect, Majors had some thoughts.
“Heartbroken! Come on, of course!” said Majors. “I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked though.”
It’s fairly obvious that Majors would be bummed about his character not carrying over into future movies. He was unceremoniously fired from the MCU after his conviction. It would be interesting to know what changes are being made to “Avengers 5,” now called “Avengers: Doomsday,” to make it un-Kang-ed. You have to assume it’s more than just a situation where you can replace all the “Kang” in a script with “Doctor Doom.”
More than just his MCU work, there’s a lot of questions about what Jonathan Majors is going to do next. He’s still relatively young and extremely talented. It would be a bit silly to just think he won’t be able to find an acting job somewhere. If Kevin Spacey and Johnny Depp can do it, then surely Majors can too.
As of now, we just don’t know what that is going to look like. And if you only care about Marvel films, then you’ve probably long since written him off.
“Avengers: Doomsday” is set to release on May 1, 2026.
