Jordan Peele Teases More "Stories" To Be Told In 'Nope' Universe

After near-universal acclaim for “Get Out,” his directorial debut, Jordan Peele has begun to divide audiences with his newest films, “Us” and “Nope.” The latter of which, released earlier this summer, has been his most controversial yet, with people either saying it’s genius or trying to convince people it’s utter garbage. That debate is neither here nor there. However, according to Peele, it might be his first film to lead to other stories and potential sequels.

Speaking to The New York Times, Jordan Peele talked about the fan reaction to his new film, “Nope.” Specifically, he talked about some of the fan theories in the film regarding a character who appeared in the trailer but never made it to the final cut. And in discussing the theories, the filmmaker teased that maybe there are more stories in the “Nope” universe he’s hoping to tell.

Eagle-eyed viewers of “Nope” noticed something a bit suspicious about a character in the film. Actually, not a character in the final film, but someone who showed up in the trailer and is listed on IMDB but didn’t appear in the theatrical cut. The character is played by Michael Busch and is seen in the trailer but not in the finished feature. That typically wouldn’t get people talking, as trailer images often don’t make final cuts in films. However, what is sparking interest specifically about Busch’s character is the IMDB listing which just gives him the name Nobody. That’s an oddly specific, but vague name for an inconsequential character in the trailer.

When asked about this, Peele did some more teasing.

“People are doing a lot of interesting detective work, is what’s going on,” said Peele. “The story of that character has yet to be told, I can tell you that. Which is another frustrating way of saying, I’m glad people are paying attention. I do think they will get more answers on some of these things in the future. We’re not over telling all of these stories.”

So, what does he mean? Taken at face value, it sure does seem like Peele is ready to tell more stories relating to “Nope.” However, perhaps he’s not talking about a new film. Maybe a TV spinoff? Perhaps a book or graphic novel? We just don’t know. That said, it’s clear Peele isn’t shooting down speculation and wants people to pay attention. We’ll just have to wait for the filmmaker to give us another bread crumb.
