Kogonada & Christopher Radcliff To Direct & Write New Series About The Death Of Vincent Chin; Chloé Zhao To Produce

The true story of the murder of Vincent Chin is chilling and horrific. Bringing that sort of story to life on TV will definitely take the skills of some talented filmmakers. Thankfully, that’s exactly what is happening with the upcoming series from Participant and producer Chloé Zhao, as they’ve found two acclaimed filmmakers to tell Chin’s story.

According to Deadline, Kogonada and Christopher Radcliff have been brought on to direct and write, respectively, a new series about the life and tragic death of Vincent Chin in the early-‘80s. For those unaware, in 1982, Chin was murdered by two men due to racially motivated reasons. The two men were eventually found guilty but given incredibly light sentences, leading to more public outrage. The new untitled series is produced by Participant and “Eternals” filmmaker Chloé Zhao.

Kogonada has been brought on to direct the series. He’s probably best known for his film work, on features such as “Columbus” and most recently, “After Yang.” He has also directed episodes of the acclaimed series, “Pachinko.” Radcliff is probably best known for writing and directing his 2018 film, “The Strange Ones.” Most recently, he worked as a writer and producer on the new HBO series, “A Time for Mercy,” with Matthew McConaughey starring.

“Kogonada’s deeply probing vision into the heart of Vincent’s story and the birth of a movement in a way that both compels and stands the test of time makes him the perfect filmmaker to capture this landmark history,” said Helen Zia, a representative of the Chin estate.

It’s unclear when production on the new Vincent Chin series will begin. However, with these names involved, this has become one of our most anticipated.
