Julianne Moore & Director Jill Soloway Teaming Up For A Film About The Only Female Ice Road Trucker

Over the years, Oscar-winning actress Julianne Moore has basically played just about every type of character you can imagine, in a variety of genres and for some of the best filmmakers around. But with the upcoming film that she just signed up for, Moore is tackling a brand-new type of character — an ice road trucker Instagram star.

According to THR, Moore has agreed to star in the upcoming film based on the Amy Butcher book, “Mothertrucker,” about a journalist who goes on an adventure with the only female ice road trucker Joy Mothertrucker. Moore will play the 50-year-old woman that brings the young journalist under her wing for an adventure on the Alaskan road, which has been named the most dangerous in the world for truckers.

The adaptation will be written and directed by “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway. The filmmaker, as mentioned, is best known for the Emmy-winning series, which ends its upcoming run with a feature-length musical later this year. In addition to the “Mothertrucker” adaptation, Soloway has also been attached as the writer-director of the upcoming big-budget action film, “Red Sonja.” That film was the subject of intense scrutiny when director Bryan Singer was originally attached. However, now with Soloway, fans and critics are interested in seeing how the filmmaker will adapt the action heroine.

“I’m honored to tell this deeply resonant story about two women finding meaning and strength as they face an epic challenge in one of the most punishing and beautiful landscapes on the planet,” Soloway said.

Moore, obviously, is one of the best actresses on the face of the planet. She’s a five-time Oscar nominee, with her only win coming in 2015 thanks to the film, “Still Alice.” This year, she has released a short film with Luca Guadagnino and the just-released feature “After the Wedding,” co-starring Michelle Williams. She’ll next be seen in “The Woman in the Window” and the Gloria Steinem biopic, “The Glorias.”
