A Miranda July film is very much its own thing. With only three features under her belt, the filmmaker has carved out a niche in the film industry that very much belongs to her and her alone. But considering she has an unmistakable style and tone, if you enjoy what she’s done in the past, you know that you’re going to love her latest film, “Kajillionaire.”
With “Kajillionaire” now playing select theaters and coming to VOD next month, we’re happy to give our readers an exclusive look at a clip from the film, showcasing the work of lead actress Evan Rachel Wood. The film tells the story of con-artists and their adult daughter that lure another person into their next big heist.
Joining Wood in the cast are Richard Jenkins, Debra Winger, Gina Rodriguez, and Mark Ivanir. As mentioned, the film comes from writer-director Miranda July. While “Kajillionaire” marks only her third feature-length film and the first since 2011’s “The Future,” the artist has been involved in a number of other projects over the past decade, including short films, music videos, as well as novels.
We were lucky enough to check out “Kajillionaire” when it screened at this year’s Sundance, and in our review of the film, we were a bit confounded but enjoyed the film overall, “As it is, as an offbeat investigation into parenting as maybe the longest con of them all, that lands on a strangely normcore yet somehow expansive conquering-love conclusion, ‘Kajillionaire’ can feel a little like a present that you can’t decide if you’ll treasure forever, or return to the store for a full cash refund.”

Here’s the synopsis for the film:
From acclaimed writer/director Miranda July comes a profoundly moving and wildly original comedy. Con-artists Theresa (Debra Winger) and Robert (Richard Jenkins) have spent 26 years training their only daughter, Old Dolio (Evan Rachel Wood), to swindle, scam, and steal at every opportunity. During a desperate, hastily conceived heist, they charm a stranger (Gina Rodriguez) into joining their next scam, only to have their entire world turned upside down.
