Got a Tip?

Kate Winslet Joins Director Gavin O’Connor For New HBO Series ‘Mare Of Easttown’

Kate Winslet is the latest actor to join the ranks of the Peak TV era. And she’s doing so in style, with some serious talent behind the scenes.

Deadline is reporting that Winslet has signed on to star in the upcoming series “Mare of Easttown,” which will be released by HBO. Plot details are slim, but we do know that the actress will portray a detective in a small town in Pennsylvania that is investigating a local murder while her personal life seems to be crumbling around her.

Adding to the star power of the series is the fact that director Gavin O’Connor is onboard to direct all the episodes of the series. O’Connor is probably best known for helming the films “Warrior,” “The Accountant,” and “Miracle.” He is currently in post-production on a film called “Torrance,” that reunites him with his ‘Accountant’ star Ben Affleck.

‘Mare’ is written and created by Brad Ingelsby, who wrote the aforementioned “Torrance.” He’s also known for his work on “Run All Night,” “Out of the Furnace,” and “American Woman,” which premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Winslet, of course, is an acclaimed actress who has a ton of quality films under her belt. She’s also won a ton of awards, including 7 Academy Award nominations (winning one) and 10 Golden Globe nominations (winning three).

“Mare of Easttown” is the latest example of HBO trying to expand its original content programming, trying to compete with the streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Apple, and Amazon, who seem to be launching new series at an incredible clip. While HBO is expanding the number of series its producing, the leadership at the network has made it clear they are not going to water down its offerings by stretching too thin.

No release date is set for “Mare of Easttown.”
