With Disney and Fox coming together as one mega-studio earlier this year, that meant that all those Fox superhero properties it licensed from Marvel is back under Kevin Feige’s control. However, that also means that the only major character that isn’t completely under the Disney regime is Spider-Man. With Sony keeping the rights to Spidey tightly held in its fist, it doesn’t seem likely that Marvel Studios will get complete control anytime soon. This means that the idea of a “Venom” crossover is still tough to fathom.
You see, Venom is a character that is very much connected to Spider-Man in every bit of lore that has been released by Marvel Comics dating back to the anti-hero’s introduction decades ago. However, Sony decided to utilize the character in his own spin-off film, which earned almost $900 million worldwide and was a breakout hit of 2018. But it would appear that he exists in a universe that doesn’t include Tom Holland’s Spider-Man character in the MCU.

So, with that in mind, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was asked if he thinks that there will be a time when Venom and Spider-Man will once again meet on the big screen.
“I think probably it’s up to Sony,” said Feige (via CinemaBlend). “Sony has both those characters and, has Venom in their world. I don’t know what their plans are for another Venom or if they’re doing that. But it seems likely at some point.”
The only other person that will likely know when that might happen is Amy Pascal, the former exec at Sony that now is a full-time producer and someone actively involved in the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise.
“The key thing to ‘Venom’ to Tom Holland, ‘Spider-Man,’ ‘Spider-Verse’ is that as wonderful and as tempting as it is to connect the dots, nothing works if the individual movies don’t work and have their own integrity. And that is the key to it all,” said Pascal (via Fandango).
As for when the inevitable will happen (i.e. – Spidey and Venom meeting on the big screen), Pascal said, “Everybody would love to see that. You never know someday… it might happen.”
The key to all of this is the fact that Marvel Studios and Sony have a fairly unusual partnership where Marvel gets to produce the ‘Spider-Man’ films but Sony gets to keep the rights and distribute. This means that Peter Parker can exist in the MCU, but seemingly the rest of the Sony spin-off films are in a world of their own.
So, as for when we might see the Marvel Studios and Sony partnership end, the producer was keen to keep specifics under wraps but said, “I can say that we’ve had a fantastic partnership and you never know what’s going to happen. We have a lot of stories to tell about Spider-Man, in every facet.”
Whatever the future might hold for the rights to the character, one thing is for sure — Tom Holland as Peter is here to stay.
“We have big plans for Tom Holland to be a part of everything,” Pascal confirmed.
She added, “He needs to be in every movie that I ever work on!”
One movie we know that Holland will be featured in is “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” which arrives in theaters on July 2.
