'Killing Eve' Trailer: The Creator Of 'Fleabag' Returns With A Thriller

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the writer and star of “Fleabag,” has created a new show. Does anything more really need to be said? Methinks no.

Sandra Oh from “Grey’s Anatomy (which is apparently still on the air) stars alongside Jodie Comer of Starz’s “The White Princess in Waller-Bridge’s newest, “Killing Eve.” This dramatic thriller is quite the leap for Waller-Bridge. But in fact, she was approached about this project long before “Fleabag” made it to TV, and saw it as a perfect opportunity to expand her oeuvre. The writer and actress told TVGuide, “I want to be able to write lots of genres and characters. It was such a breath of fresh air for someone to say, ‘How about you do something incredibly different?’ That kicked off pretty soon after ‘Fleabag’ so I didn’t really have a chance to be pigeonholed.”

Based on the novellas by Luke Jennings, ‘Killing Eve’ centers on two women; Eve (Oh) is a bored, whip-smart, pay-grade MI5 security officer whose desk-bound job doesn’t fulfill her fantasies of being a spy. Villanelle (Comer) is a mercurial, talented killer who clings to the luxuries her violent job affords her. These two fiercely intelligent women, equally obsessed with each other, go head to head in an epic game of cat and mouse.

In addition to Oh and Comer, the new show will feature Fiona Shaw, of the “Harry Potter films, as an M16 agent, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste, from cancelled-far-too-soon “Downward Dog,” as Eve’s assistant. The cast is rounded out by Kim Bodnia, David Haig, Sean Delaney, and Owen McDonnell.

The eight-episode “Killing Eve” will premiere on BBC America at 8 PM on Sunday, April 8th.
