Got a Tip?

Liam Neeson Rules Out More ‘Star Wars’ Appearances: I’m “Too F-ing Old”

“No one’s ever really gone,” Luke Skywalker famously said in 2017’s “Star Wars – Episode VIII – The Last Jedi.” A poignant line about memory and those we keep dear in our hearts, the line arguably had the double ironic meaning of how no one ever actually ever dies in genre films, especially not in “Star Wars,” thanks to the whole Force Ghost conceit. Speaking of Force Ghosts, while Liam Neeson made a brief appearance in 2022’s “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series starring Ewan McGregor, the actor doesn’t seem interested in much more beyond that brief cameo.

While speaking with Screen Rant, the Irish actor was asked about more “Star Wars” and didn’t sound all that warm to the idea of another live-action return as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn again. “We shot [‘The Phantom Menace’] 26 years ago! Would I do it again? I don’t think so. Too f-ing old, ya know? I can’t see the situation, I really can’t, you know?”

However, Neeson did point out that he enjoyed his brief cameo at the end of “Kenobi” as he got to play Qui-Gon Jinn as a force ghost, something that Yoda has teased in “Revenge of The Sith” and finally got a payoff in the standalone series. But it just sounds like he’s good with what he got.

You can’t be all that shocked by Neeson’s sentiment here. While some “Star Wars” franchise actors might be highly open to this idea of coming back, as we’ve seen with Hayden Christensen and, to a greater extent, with Ewan McGregor (coming back to lead “Kenobi”), others might want to move on finally.

Up next for “Star Wars,” The Acolyte” series will explore The High Republic in a streaming series when it debuts on Disney+ this June. And the direction of the Jude Law series, “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” is still a bit of a mystery. Beyond that, the grounded “Andor” series will return in 2026, which could be it for a while in terms of TV as Lucasfilm looks like it will pivot back to movies starting with “The Mandalorian and Grogu” TBD 2026.
