'Westworld' Creators Adapting 'Fallout' Video Game Franchise For A New Amazon Series

Westworld” may continue to become the source of much debate amongst TV fans, with its seasons varying greatly in both quality and story. But that doesn’t mean that creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are any less in-demand in Hollywood. And it appears that they’re about to begin work on a brand-new series based on one of the most popular video game franchises of all time, “Fallout.”

According to THR, Amazon Studios have teamed up with Joy and Nolan to develop a new TV series based on the “Fallout” video game franchise. The series will tell the story of an alternate view of the US decades in the future after the world was ravaged by nuclear war during the ‘40s. As the title suggests, the future is still dealing with the fallout of that war and a new government has risen up, along with new factions of humans all attempting to survive in this new post-apocalyptic landscape.

The video game series is more of an anthology tale, with each story focusing on brand-new characters and brand-new locations, such as the ruins of DC, Boston, West Virginia, and elsewhere. In addition, some of the games even take place in various points in the future, roughly around the year 2077. Needless to say, there’s plenty of lore and potential for Joy and Nolan to expand on the story that’s already been told without having to retell a plot that has already been shown in a game.

In addition to “Westworld” at HBO and the upcoming “Fallout” series on Amazon, Joy and Nolan have a number of other projects in the works, including at least one other sci-fi series over at Amazon. Joy also is the writer and director of a new feature film starring Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson, titled “Reminiscence,” which has yet to be given a release date.

Amazon has yet to fully commit to a full season of “Fallout,” but the decision to move ahead will be contingent on the first script for the show. A writer is currently unannounced.
