'Love And Monsters' Trailer: Dylan O'Brien Fights Monsters To Reunite With His Girlfriend

And the award for the most literal title for a film in 2020 goes to… “Love and Monsters.”

As seen in the trailer for the upcoming sci-fi-action-comedy-romance-adventure film, the plot revolves around a boy that aims to find the LOVE of his life while also dealing with a ton of MONSTERS. More specifically, the plot of “Love and Monsters” follows Joel (Dylan O’Brien), a young man that is madly in love with Aimee (Jessica Henwick). However, their love is put to the test when monsters rise up and destroy humanity, forcing survivors underground. And sadly, Joel and Aimee are in separate colonies, 85 miles apart. This revelation that Aimee is not only alive but just 85 miles away forces Joel to go topside and do whatever he can to save the girl he loves and slow-mo kill some monsters along the way.

Look, there’s no one out there that would think “Love and Monsters” is going to be this acclaimed drama (like the similarly titled “Gods and Monsters”). This film is a fun, sorta silly film featuring charming actors and a bit of high-octane action along the way. And you know what? It looks pretty fun.

Joining O’Brien and Henwick in the cast are Michael Rooker and Ariana Greenblatt, as two survivors that Joel encounters along the way. “Love and Monsters” is directed by Michael Matthews. The filmmaker debuted in 2017 with the acclaimed Western, “Five Fingers for Marseilles.” Matthews co-wrote the feature alongside Brian Duffield, who is probably best known for the Netflix horror-comedy, “The Babysitter,” which is also absurd, stupid fun.

Here’s the synopsis:

Seven years after the Monsterpocalypse, Joel Dawson (Dylan O’Brien), along with the rest of humanity, has been living underground ever since giant creatures took control of the land. After reconnecting over radio with his high school girlfriend Aimee (Jessica Henwick), who is now 80 miles away at a coastal colony, Joel begins to fall for her again. As Joel realizes that there’s nothing left for him underground, he decides against all logic to venture out to Aimee, despite all the dangerous monsters that stand in his way.
