Luc Besson is looking to return to the world (and financing) of Hollywood filmmaking. The director and mega-producer is currently shopping an untitled love story around town that he co-wrote with David Marconi (“Live Free Or Die Hard,” “Enemy Of The State”).
Details on the film are non-existent, but if it does get picked up, Besson has attached himself to direct. For those of you thinking it might be odd for the usually action heavy director/producer to be eyeing a love story, he did direct the fantasy romance “Angel A” so it wouldn’t be his first foray into the genre, and moreover, given Marconi’s previous credits, we would wager there is more than meets the eye on this.
In addition to this one, Besson has another stack of scripts he’s taking to studios with an eye at producing them. One is the previously reported “Columbiana” that has Zoe Saldana attached. The film is set in Latin America and centers on a young woman who witnesses her parents’ murder as a child in Bogota, then grows up to be a ruthless assassin. Olivier Megaton (“Transporter 3”) was originally slated to direct with a late summer start in mind, but considering it’s still being shopped around, both the star and director could change. The other project is a prison-in-space drama (um, wtf/awesome) called “The Lock Out.” Again, no details on this, but holy high concept.
Besson hopes to start shooting the love story film in September in London and Paris and is apparently already reaching out to potential cast members. His latest directorial effort, the fantasy adventure “Les Adventures Of Adele Blanc-Sec” opened in Europe this spring but doesn’t yet have a release date slated stateside.
