Unlike many of the other Oscar categories that shortlist their potential nominees at 15 contenders, the Makeup and Hairstyling branch only selects 10 films. Somewhat odd considering almost every narrative feature features a working member of their branch, but so be it. Needless to say, top contenders “Birds of Prey,” “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “Emma” and “Jungle Jangle: A Christmas Journey” still made the cut.

Unfortunately, a few prominent players did not. The list of snubbed films includes “Bill and Ted Face the Music,” “The Prom,” “The United States vs. Billie Holiday,” “Promising Young Woman,” “Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm,” “Wonder Woman 1984,” “Ammonite” and “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.”
The 10 films still eligible for the Hair and Makeup Academy Award are as follows:
“Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn”
“Emma”
“The Glorias”
“Hillbilly Elegy”
“Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey”
“The Little Things”
“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”
“Mank”
“One Night in Miami…”
“Pinocchio”
