Got a Tip?

Mamie Gummer Joins ‘True Detective’ Season 3

HBO is going to be the House Of Streep this spring. The legendary actress is bringing her chops to “Big Little Lies” season two, and now her daughter is rolling up her sleeves to get gritty with “True Detective.”

Mamie Gummer has come aboard the third season of “True Detective,” joining Mahershala AliCarmen EjogoStephen Dorff, and Scoot McNairy. The next instalment will tell the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, with a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods. Ambitious in its mixing of eras, Ali will play a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas, Ejogo is an Arkansas schoolteacher with a connection to two missing children in 1980, Dorff is Ali’s partner, with McNairy as Tom, a father whose terrible loss connects him with the detectives. Meanwhile, Gummer will play the mother of the two children at the center of the crime.

This will easily be Gummer’s biggest role, with the actress mostly spending her time in supporting roles, flipping between TV (“The Good Wife“) and indie flicks. She was previously at HBO with a role in “John Adams.”

Creator/showrunner and writer Nic Pizzolatto will direct the next round episodes with Jeremy Saulnier (“Blue Ruin,” “Green Room”), though it’s unclear how many they’ll each do. Production will begin sometime this year and the new season of “True Detective” will arrive in 2019. [THR]
