If there is one pair that dominated 2023, it has to be Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie. From the second the first images from “Barbie” started to leak online, showing their ridiculous costumes, people were excited. And when the film came out, breaking box office records and scoring rave reviews, the excitement surrounding Gosling and Robbie only grew. So, it makes complete sense that Warner Bros. would love to rush out the planned “Ocean’s 11” prequel that is set to reteam the duo. In fact, many people were thinking it was happening sooner than later. But when you hear Robbie talk about it, it seems all that “Ocean’s 11” talk might be a bit premature.

In a new interview with Deadline, Margot Robbie talked about all things “Barbie,” as well as what’s going on with her popular production company LuckyChap. And as you might expect, everyone is itching to know when we might see Margot Robbie on the big screen again. Naturally, that led to a question about the already-announced “Ocean’s 11” prequel that is set to star Gosling and Robbie, who would be playing the parents of George Clooney’s character, in a film set in the ‘60s. Folks just assumed this was ramping up to begin production soon. Well, not so much, actually.
“Well, that’s still in development. Word got out about that; we didn’t release anything because it’s way too soon, to be honest,” said Robbie. “Whether it winds up being the next thing, I don’t know. I don’t think so. It’s a pretty big project to put together and there are certain logistical things that we have to time it around.”

That sure doesn’t sound like the words of someone who is certain a project is happening soon, huh? In fact, it doesn’t even sound like this is a film that is guaranteed to happen, at all. Robbie, to her credit, feels like maybe it’s time for her to take a step away from another huge role right now. She believes that perhaps people are “sick” of her.
She added, “I also think everyone’s probably sick of the sight of me for now. I should probably disappear from screens for a while. Honestly, if I did another movie too soon, people would say, ‘Her again? We just did a whole summer with her. We’re over it.’ I don’t know what I’ll do next, but I hope it’s a little while away.”
This is obviously not the news that WB would like to hear right now. Robbie has also been adamant that she doesn’t think a “Barbie” sequel should happen anytime relatively soon, or even at all. So, without a sequel lined up for “Barbie,” the next best thing would be to put the two major stars in a film together, satiating the desire of people who just love to see Gosling and Robbie together. Sure, that sounds like it will probably happen, but the timeline seems further out than any of us actually thought.
What this does mean, however, is that maybe there’s a glimmer of hope for Clooney that he can hurry up and get his proposed ‘Ocean’s’ sequel film off the ground. When he started talking about that recently, teasing what it would be like, many assumed it would either not happen or likely be years away, considering the Robbie/Gosling project seemed more immediate. But now, who knows?
