Mark Ruffalo has dished that he’s gearing up to act in a movie helmed by Bertrand Bonello (“The Beast,” “Nocturama,” “Saint Laurent”), “soon,” as the actor is featured in a new interview over at Flaunt, where Ruffalo revealed the tantalizing pairing when it was stated he’s worked with every modern auteur.
“There’s plenty that I haven’t worked with, but yeah, I’ve been so blessed. I’m always surprised that I’m still going, you know? I’m gonna work with Bertrand Bonello soon, which is exciting.”
While some have pointed to his next film “Sainthood Now” (title reportedly leaked and confirmed by the Polish Film Institute), speaking with Variety back in June, the filmmaker revealed he had THREE scripts in the works. With that said, we don’t know for sure Ruffalo is talking about this potential Pope film or is circling a role for one of these other two gestating scripts.
“I have three scripts. When things are more concrete, I’ll make an announcement,” Bonello said of his upcoming films in the works.
However, the filmmaker said this about what drives him to make his next project: “Either you want to go further in something you’ve started, or you want to go elsewhere. And the projects I’m working on right now are a bit of both. I’m keen to explore something totally different, in the form, the theme, or even the language. With “The Beast,” I’d never made a film with a female lead before. It was a complex film, and now I want to make something simple. Then out of 10 films, nine were shot in Paris and in France. I’m eager now to shoot abroad and to collaborate with new actors. What drives me is the unknown.”
Seeing Bonello and Ruffalo together is certainly an exciting prospect; hopefully, we’ll learn more in the coming months and will know for sure if this role is meant for “Sainthood Now,” sooner or later.
