Marvel Phase 4: The Films & Shows That Will Lead The MCU Into The Future - Page 4 of 6

She-Hulk
The Marvel Cinematic Universe already has one massive, strong green anger monster in its midst. But in 2022, there will be another Hulk joining the fray in the new Disney+ series, “She-Hulk.” “Orphan Black” actress Tatiana Maslany is set to star as Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk, a cousin to Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner and the latest character to be exposed to gamma radiation and suddenly turn big, green, and strong. However, as seen in the comics, Jennifer Walters is always her Hulk-ish self and uses it to her advantage to help fight crime on the streets while also fighting for justice in the courts, as a lawyer. Jessica Gao has been announced as the series’ writer, with Kat Coiro and Anu Valia directing episodes of the series.

I Am Groot” and “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
He’s small. He’s adorable. He only says three words. Yes, we’re talking about the talking tree, Groot, who is going to be performing double-duty on Disney+ in 2022. Not only will Groot be the star of his own series of shorts, titled “I Am Groot” (natch), the lovable hero will also show up in the “Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special,” which is set to star the entire cast of the film franchise and will be directed by James Gunn. The special is expected to start filming next year, during production on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” and will pay homage to the controversial “Star Wars Holiday Special.” It’s sure to be charming and silly.

What If…?” Season 2
Just like the first season of the series, “What If…?” Season 2 asks more hypothetical questions featuring beautiful animation and a star-studded cast of voice actors. This has already been announced as in the works and will likely be towards the end of 2022. No other details are really known at this time.

2023
Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumanium
It should come as no surprise that director Peyton Reed would again return for a third ‘Ant-Man,’ currently set for release in 2023, even if 2015’s onscreen debut of the character could be viewed as somewhat shaky and 2018’s ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ only fared slightly better. With a title that seems to allude to more adventures in the Quantum Realm, and Jonathan Majors set to play legendary Marvel bad guy Kang the Conqueror along with Kathryn Newton as Scott Lang’s daughter Cassie, it’s safely assumed Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will again return to the title roles, as well as Michael Douglas back for another take on original Ant-Man Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer back as Pym’s wife/original Wasp, Janet Van Dyne. It’s also safe to say that Lang’s oddball crew of criminal associates/business partners will factor somehow into the story as well, though even if it’s just a moment of Michael Pena again offering another memorable recap of whatever he’s been up to, that’s just fine.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
In a stunning turn of events following director James Gunn’s success with the first two Guardians of the Galaxy entries and his subsequent 2018 firing by Disney after old Tweets surfaced that painted Gunn in a rather poor light, Disney decided in mid-2019 to reverse their decision and reinstate his writer/director mantle, made all the more unusual as the man was at the moment helming “The Suicide Squad” for rival DC. Nonetheless, to have Gunn back in the MCU following an outpouring of support from the ‘Guardians’ cast appears to have satiated the fans and will presumably tee up another memorable sequel, one set for release sometime in 2023, one that may also involve Thor and one which will almost certainly include the Ravagers & the mysterious Adam being seen during the post-credit sequences, in addition to another classic rock-laden soundtrack album and all sorts of gripes between Rocket & Groot. Did you expect anything else?
