Marvel Phase 4: The Films & Shows That Will Lead The MCU Into The Future - Page 5 of 6

Fantastic Four
After knocking the cinematic ball out of the park with two highly successful ‘Spider-Man’ additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, director Jon Watts will follow the third untitledSpider-sequel with his attempt to again reboot ‘Fantastic Four’ following Tim Story’s two questionable mid-’00s theatrical misfires and Josh Trank’s best-left-forgotten 2015 disaster. With Marvel’s First Family at long last part of the MCU following Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the franchise appears to be in good hands – the old adage of third time’s a charm may be best applied to what Watts will eventually bring audiences, though no release date is in place at the moment. All we can do is wait and see.

Deadpool 3
After Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019, many wondered what the future held for Fox’s stacked arsenal of superheroes, one which included the likes of Fantastic Four, X-Men and that beloved wisecracking gun-toting Deadpool, especially following two entries in 2016 & 2018 that both were met with critical acclaim and runaway box office success. Following much deliberation over where the hyper-violent Deadpool might fit into his new Mouse House domicile, it was finally determined that the third film would receive another R rating, with Ryan Reynolds set to return as the title character once again and that the untitled project would now be a part of the MCU, as most expected. Here’s hoping the spirit, energy and irreverent tone seen thus far carries over into “Deadpool 3,” which has yet to set a release date, presumably to take the time necessary so as to ensure audiences will receive the sequel everyone deserves. Fingers crossed.

Ironheart
You didn’t think that just because Tony Stark is dead, there was going to be a lack of armored heroes in the MCU, did you? Well, not only is someone ready to take over the role of armored avenger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but she’s actually a quarter of the age of Tony Stark and might actually be smarter. That’s right, get ready to meet Riri Williams in the upcoming series, “Ironheart.” All we really know about the show is that it will star Dominique Thorne (“If Beale Street Could Talk”) as the lead role and is based on the character of the same name in Marvel Comics. And much like the comics, she shows up after the death of Tony Stark, developing an Iron Man armor on her own, which she uses to fight crime.

Secret Invasion
Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn are set to reprise their roles as Nick Fury and Talos in the upcoming “Secret Invasion” series on Disney+. The series, based loosely on the comic book storyline of the same name, posits the question, “What if the Skrulls infiltrated our planet already and have been using their shapeshifting ability to pose as important people in our society?” Would you believe Donald Trump is actually an alien shapeshifter with ulterior motives? Okay, maybe you would and that’s a bad example. But you get the idea, right? The series follows Fury and Talos, as they figure out what’s going on with all the Skrulls posing as humans and what their ultimate goal is.

Armor Wars
If you’re someone who thought, “What the hell happened to all of Tony Stark’s technology after his death in ‘Avengers: Endgame?’” then you deserve a trophy. Because no one really asked that question except you and Kevin Feige, apparently. You see, back during the recent Disney Investors Presentation, Marvel Studios surprised everyone by introducing the upcoming Disney+ series, “Armor Wars,” which answers the above question. The series stars Don Cheadle as James Rhodes, aka War Machine, Tony Stark’s best friend and the person left to deal with the mess left behind after Iron Man’s technology falls into the wrong hands.
