This decade, George Mackay has gradually emerged as one of the UK’s most intriguing actors, one who’s unafraid to tackle extreme roles as well as independent projects. He’ll do both in his next onscreen performance, in a film titled “Mission,” set for a world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival later this month.
Mackay stars alongside Rosy McEwen in the drama, about a man whose promise to live life to the fullest in a week leads to increasingly transgressive pursuits. Read on for an official synopsis of “Mission,” courtesy of Blue Finch Film:
Adrift, Dylan (MacKay) gives himself one week and a mission: to truly live before he dies. Transcendence gives way to transgression as Dylan pushes himself and the world around him to the very limits in the hope of finding meaning, connection and salvation.
Along with Mackay and McEwen, “Mission” also stars Emun Elliott and Emma Naomi. Paul Wright writes and directs the film, his second with Mackay after 2013’s “For Those In Peril.”
Producers on the film include Kate Byers & Linn Waite, Alex Thiele, Marie-Elena Dyche, and Lowri Roberts, along with Maisie Williams. Executive producers include Kristin Irving, Kieran Hannigan, and Kiah Simpson.
As noted earlier, “Mission” has its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on August 15. Stay tuned for US theatrical release dates. Watch a new teaser for the film below.
