More than two decades after Saddam Hussein’s capture, TNT is revisiting the CIA interrogation that followed in “High Value Target: The Hunt For Saddam,” an eight-episode limited series starring Joel Kinnaman as intelligence analyst John Nixon.
Inspired by Nixon’s memoir, “Debriefing the President,” the political thriller chronicles the CIA officer’s attempts to extract answers from Hussein after U.S. forces captured the former Iraqi leader in December 2003. Waleed Zuaiter plays Hussein, whose exchanges with Nixon force the analyst to question the intelligence used to justify the invasion of Iraq and confront the conflict’s long-term consequences.
The newly released trailer emphasizes the psychological battle between the two men as Nixon searches for evidence of weapons of mass destruction. Hussein, however, appears determined to control the interrogation, challenging the assumptions of the American officials questioning him and casting doubt on whether they understand the country they have invaded.
Leslie Greif co-wrote and directed the series, which Daniel Stiepleman and Jonathan Wakeham created. Greif, Stiepleman, Wakeham, and Graham Sack share writing credits.
The supporting cast includes Lena Góra, Rebecca Night, Tom Berenger, Paul Ryan, Christopher McDonald, Dar Salim, Matt Barr, Ewan Miller, and Talia Balsam. Alexander Rodnyansky, Jason Sarlanis, Sam Linsky, Stuart Manashil, Michael Kupisk, Tamer Mortada, and Greif executive produce.
“High Value Target: The Hunt For Saddam” premieres Sunday, September 13, at 9 pm ET/PT, with its first two episodes airing back-to-back. Episode three follows Monday, September 14, with subsequent installments arriving Sunday and Monday nights. The finale airs October 4.
