‘Murderbot’ First Look: Alexander Skarsgård Stars In A Sci-Fi Comedic Thriller For Chris & Paul Weitz On Apple TV+

What’s Alexander Skarsgård have in store for audiences in 2025? A new comedic sci-fi thriller from Academy Award nominees Chris and Paul Weitz.

Skarsgård stars in “Murderbot,” the Weitz Brother’s adaptation of Martha Wells‘ bestselling book series “The Murderbot Diaries” for Apple TV+. In the series, Skarsgård plays a self-hacking security robot whose dangerous career hides an artificial intelligence that just wants to figure out its place in the universe.

Here’s an official synopsis of “Murderbot,” courtesy of Apple TV+:

Based on Martha Wells’ best-selling, Hugo and Nebula Award-winning book series “The Murderbot Diaries,” “Murderbot” is a sci-fi thriller/comedy about a self-hacking security construct who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable clients. Played by Skarsgård, Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.

“Murderbot” also stars Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, and Akshay Khanna. Tattiawna Jones and Tamara Podemski round out the main cast.

The Weitz brothers write, direct, and produce “Murderbot” via their Depth Of Field banner. Andrew Miano also serves as executive producer through Depth Of Field. Other executive producers on the show include David S. Goyer and Keith Levine via Phantom 4, and Skarsgård, with Wells as a consulting producer. “Murderbot” is a Paramount Television Studios production.

The first two episodes of “Murderbot” premiere on May 16, with new episodes premiering weekly through July 11. Check out first-look photos from the upcoming series below.
