Got a Tip?

‘My Week With Marilyn’ Director Simon Curtis Decides To ‘Click To Connect’ With Online Dating Comedy

Aside from the rightfully lauded performances by Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh, the most impressive aspect of “My Week with Marilyn” was just how quick it took for the film to disappear from memory. A whispy vanilla meringue of a picture, those over at Fox 2000 have nonetheless spotted gold in its director Simon Curtis, and have set him up with a new romantic comedy.

Variety reports Curtis has closed a deal to direct “Click to Connect,” a romantic comedy set in the world of online dating. Written by Liz Tuccillo, the plot will follow “a collection of characters, ranging in age from their 20s to 60s, whose approach to online dating varies according to their circumstances and past experiences.”

With that logline, most will be getting a twinge of the collective embarrassments known as “New Year’s Eve” and “Valentines’ Day,” only now with Grindr involved, and from the past work of those involved we’d say that’s about right. Tuccillo previously worked with Greg Behrendt to bring “He’s Just Not That Into You” to the big screen, while producers Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan were both behind the upcoming Nicholas Sparks adaptation “The Lucky One.” The results have proved successful though, so as long as the masses demand ensemble-led treacle centered around calendar dates or societal phenomena, their wishes shall be met.

DiNovi Pictures is producing the film, and you can expect casting announcements soon. In the meantime, though, get those dream cast lists ready.
