If you’re a fan of Zack Snyder (and lord knows, there are plenty of you guys online), then you’re well aware “Rebel Moon” arrives on Netflix in December. Many will take notice of its impending release, as a new Snyder film seems to generate a lot of buzz amongst fans and non-fans alike. And as the discussion surrounding the filmmaker heats up around Christmas, Netflix is prepared to have a lot of the filmmaker’s more controversial works ready to stream. You see, Warner Bros. Discovery has no problem giving other streamers rights to perhaps its biggest franchise.

Recently, Netflix tweeted out news about the streaming service gaining the rights to distribute many of the DCEU films, including all of the ones that were worked on by Zack Snyder. Yes, that means “Man of Steel,” “Batman v. Superman,” “Justice League,” and even other DCEU titles like “Wonder Woman” and “Suicide Squad” are all hitting Netflix in time for the release of “Rebel Moon.” Suddenly, Netflix, not WBD’s own Max, is the go-to spot for all things Snyder.
Obviously, the attraction, on Netflix’s part, is to have all of the Snyder content possible to support the release of one of the streamer’s biggest titles of the year. But why would Warner Bros. Discovery license out the DC superhero films? Aren’t they some of the biggest titles on Max? Well, as we’ve seen, time after time, from WBD CEO David Zaslav, nothing is sacred when it comes to making money. If he doesn’t believe the Snyderverse films are causing people to subscribe to Max, then he believes that making a quick buck off of Netflix through a licensing deal is the right way to go. And though it seems strange to give the rights to distribute the many films from WBD’s biggest franchise, maybe Zaslav knows the streaming interest just isn’t there on Max. Perhaps people are too busy watching “90 Day Fiancé” or whatever other TLC/Discovery stuff is popular to care about years-old superhero films with mixed-at-best reviews.
Regardless, if you’re someone who wants to revisit the Snyderverse in preparation for the release of “Rebel Moon,” then you’ll get your chance on Netflix this holiday season. “Rebel Moon” hits select theaters on December 15 before arriving on Netflix on December 22.
