Another year, another ‘Fifty Shades’ movie. “Fifty Shades Freed” is on the way and it will be the closing chapter of the trilogy based on E.L. James’ best-selling novels. While critics and audiences panned the previous entry, “Fifty Shades Darker,” for good reason, the film managed to turn a healthy profit, raking in $381 million at the box office. With a release date near Valentine’s Day, when blockbuster competition is scarce, “Freed” is hoping to go out with a similarly sized bang.
“Fifty Shades Darker” concluded without heroes Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, played by Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, marrying and living happily ever after. Or so it seems. In ‘Freed,’ the newlywed couple must handle the return of Anastasia’s former boss Jack Hyde (Eric Johnson), who has revenge on his mind. Also returning is Kim Basinger‘s Elena Lincoln, Christian’s ex-coworker and lover, and Anastasia’s bodyguard, Luke Sawyer, played by “Pretty Little Liars” alum, Brant Daugherty.
“Fifty Shades Freed” promises to deliver on what fans of the franchise have come to expect – soap opera level melodrama, stalking, handsome vengeful villains, shirtless Christian Grey, and of course, softcore sadomasochistic sex scenes. If you are a fan of these things and have already devoted yourself to this series, then ‘Freed’ will be right up your alley. Here’s the official synopsis:
Believing they have left behind shadowy figures from their past, newlyweds Christian and Ana fully embrace an inextricable connection and shared life of luxury. But just as she steps into her role as Mrs. Grey and he relaxes into an unfamiliar stability, new threats could jeopardize their happy ending before it even begins.
“Fifty Shades Freed” opens on February 9, 2018.
