Got a Tip?

New Posters For ‘V/H/S,’ ‘Ruby Sparks,’ ‘Why Stop Now’ & ‘Deadfall’

nullThere is no one who would disagree with the notion that the age of great film posters is long behind us — instead we are left with orange-blue monstrosities with floating heads. That’s not to say there isn’t an inspired choice every now and then, as is the case with the first official poster for the horror anthology film “V/H/S” that scared audiences at Sundance earlier this year (read our take here). The poster wouldn’t look out of place as the cover of a schlocky video at a local video store circa the late '80s. The anthology, which has segments directed by a who’s-who of indie horror including Ti West (“The House Of The Devil” and “The Innkeepers”), Joe Swanberg (“Silver Bullets”) and David Bruckner (“The Signal”), will hit VOD on August 31st before debuting in theaters a few weeks later in October. And if you find yourself in North Texas this weekend, you’ll be able to catch the film on the big screen at the inaugural Oak Cliff Film Festival.

The UK poster for “Ruby Sparks,” on the other hand, is a fairly bland choice for a project that we’re pretty excited for. It’s the follow-up to Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris’ four-time Oscar-nominated debut, “Little Miss Sunshine,” and it follows a novelist struggling with writers block who finds romance in a most unusual way: by creating a female character he thinks will love him, then actually, somehow, inexplicably willing her into existence. Starring Paul Dano, Zoe Kazan (who wrote the film), Annette Bening, Steve Coogan, Antonio Banderas and more, the film arrives in theaters July 25th. [Recent Movie Posters]

Vulture has the exclusive poster debut for the Sundance comedy “Why Stop Now,” which stars Jesse Eisenberg as a piano prodigy who, before he has to do a crucial audition, must get his mother (Melissa Leo) away from her drug dealer (Tracy Morgan) and into rehab. The film, as many indie films are now doing, will be streaming on VOD starting July 5th before it screens in select theaters on August 17th. And it looks…wacky.

Finally, here's the first poster for the crime thriller “Deadfall,” which we gave a D when it screened at Tribeca earlier this year. The film stars Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde as sibling bandits who split up “to escape into the wintry Canadian wilderness, they both end up crossing paths with an ex-con boxer (Charlie Hunnam) and his parents (Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson), making for a tense Thanksgiving weekend." The Stefan Ruzowitzky (“The Counterfeiters”) -directed film premieres on VOD on November 2nd and hits theaters a month later on December 7th. [Entertainment Weekly]nullnullnullnull
