Oliver Stone Calls ‘Oppenheimer’ “A Classic” and Says Nolan’s Direction Is “Mind-Boggling & Eye-Popping”

Not only has “Oppenheimer” been a massive hit with fans and critics, as well as earning a huge box office total so far, but we’ve already seen the likes of Paul Schrader call it the “best, most important film of this century.” The praise seems neverending. And now, we have Oliver Stone chiming in to say just how much he enjoyed Christopher Nolan’s latest epic.

In a series of tweets (are they tweets still since it’s now called X?), Oliver Stone talked about his reaction to “Oppenheimer” after watching it recently. While he did bring up a couple of historical issues he had with the way the biopic told specific parts of the story, it appears that Stone is over the moon with his love of what Nolan has accomplished.

“Saturday, I sat through 3 hours of ‘Oppenheimer,’ gripped by Chris Nolan’s narrative,” wrote Stone. “His screenplay is layered & fascinating. Familiar with the book by Kai Bird & Martin J. Sherwin, I once turned the project down because I couldn’t find my way to its essence. Nolan has found it.”

He added, “His direction is mind-boggling & eye-popping as he takes reams of incident and cycles it into an exciting torrent of action inside all the talk. Each actor is a surprise to me, especially Cillian Murphy, whose exaggerated eyes here feel normal playing a genius like #Oppenheimer…#Oppenheimer is a classic, which I never believed could be made in this climate.”

Again, much like Schrader’s words, Stone is also throwing out some seemingly hyperbolic words like “classic” and “mind-boggling.” Hell, at this point, Universal should just throw out a new TV ad for the film only highlighting the things said by legendary filmmakers about Nolan’s work on “Oppenheimer.” These are some pretty great pull-quotes, huh?

“Oppenheimer” is in theaters now.
