There is nothing better to have in Hollywood than options, and Aussie helmer and Blue Tongue Films collective member Kieran Darcy-Smith is learning that lesson. The actor arrived at Sundance earlier this year with his debut feature, "Wish You Were Here," and while not exactly a breakout hit, it seems to have provided more than enough momentum to get some projects set up. He's already slated to helm a segment of the omnibus "Sydney Unplugged," this fall he lined up the thriller "By Way Of Helena" and he's got an untitled romance kicking around as well. Now comes another project and should all the chips fall into place, it will be his next.
Rising star Oscar Isaac and Max Minghella have joined "Memorial Day," with Darcy-Smith set to direct from the script he also wrote. The story is set in the 1980s, and will follow Hispanic brothers who to try remedy the fallout from a family tragedy. The film still needs a third lead, but once that is found, financing should come together and things will start moving with plans to shoot in Florida next year.
Darcy-Smith has also finished the script for the sequel to the Aussie hit "Tomorrow, When The War Began" and while he won't be directing, he's clearly got his hands in more than few ovens. eOne will bring "Wish You Were Here" to theaters next year, and we'd wager by then the director will already be on to his next endeavor.
