There were plenty of exciting wins from Sunday’s Oscars telecast, but the show also features a somber tone with their traditional In Memoriam presentation that features many people from all corners of Hollywood who passed over the year.
“Unforgiven” actor Morgan Freeman spent the first part of the segment giving his late co-star Gene Hackman a tribute leading into the main portion. Others were given a heartfelt spotlight such as James Earl Jones, David Lynch, Maggie Smith, and many more.

Despite the best efforts to add as many people as possible, every year folks are left out.
Sadly, some of the names omitted from the In Memoriam include Tony Todd, Chance Perdomo, Alain Delon, Tony Roberts, Linda Lavin, James Darren, Mitzi Gaynor, Martin Mull, Olivia Hussey, Morgan Spurlock, and Michelle Trachtenberg (the young actress tragically passed just last week, like Hackman).

Elsewhere in the telecast, there was a special introduction by “The Color Purple” actresses Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey honoring the late composer/producer Quincy Jones leading into a performance of a song from the musical “The Wiz” with Queen Latifah singing. Jones had recently won an honorary Oscar which saw his daughter Rashida Jones, emotionally accept on his behalf.
